Cross the inventiveness of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with the maneuvers of Wacky Races and you have the ingredients for one of Ireland’s most original and colourful soap box races – The Hagans Bar Gannonball Run. The steep incline of Dungannon’s Irish Street is all the traction and power that’s needed to transform these beautiful and painstakingly crafted trucks into absolute flying machines.
With the excitement of a new route, more elaborate obstacles and the added element of the race being hosted at night for the first time, (never mind the crashes!) this year’s event is set to be the best ever. Eat your heart out Caractacus Potts and Dick Dastardly!
Are you brave enough to tackle the challenge of a new race course? Do you have the imagination to wow the crowd with your costumes and soap box design? Or are you simply ‘up for the craic’ and willing to take part in Dungannon’s most memorable annual event?
Councillor Walter Cuddy – Chairman of the organising committee is urging the entire community to get involved, either as an entrant or a spectator. He says: “We are delighted to have partnered with Hagans Bar for this year’s event. There is a new twist on this year’s Hagan’s Bar Gannonball Run with the event being held at night using Irish Street as the race route. Thrill seeking families, businesses, community groups and individuals are now invited to submit their entry form and get working on a wacky, road racer. The event attracts spectators from near and far so make sure you are part of it!
